Privacy Policy

Nichable is an independent service that helps high school students find and keep track of internships, research programs, scholarships, competitions, and similar opportunities. This policy explains what information we collect, how we use and share it, and the choices and rights you have. Students use Nichable directly: it isn't provided by or on behalf of any school or district, and we don't receive student records from schools. Anything like a transcript is uploaded by students themselves, only if they choose to.

Nichable is intended for students who are at least 13 years old. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 13. If you are under 18, you should have a parent or guardian's permission to use the service. If we learn that we have collected information from a child under 13, we will delete it promptly — please contact us if you believe this has happened.

Account and profile information. Your name, email address, and the profile details you choose to add, such as your school, city and state, graduation year, grade, academic interests, and goals.

Content you provide. Documents you upload (such as a resume or transcript), essays and application notes, opportunities you save, searches, lists you create, reports you submit, and messages you send us.

Information about other people you give us. For example, the name and email address of someone you ask for a recommendation. We use it only to do what you ask, such as sending that person your request.

Sign-in information. Sign-in is handled by a specialized provider on our behalf. If you use a password, we never see or store it; if you sign in with a Google account, we receive basic account details such as your name and email address.

Technical and usage information. Information your browser sends when you use the service, such as IP address, browser and device type, and the pages you visit. We may use your IP address to estimate your general area (city or state) so we can suggest nearby opportunities; we don't store that estimate or collect precise location. To count page views, we record only which page was viewed and when, with no cookie or identifier tied to you. On forms anyone can use without an account, such as the contact form and a recommender's request link, we keep a daily count tied to the sender's IP address so one sender can't flood them.

• To provide, maintain, and personalize the service, including search results and recommendations
• To run the features you choose to use, such as processing a document you upload or suggesting next steps for an application
• To send you account messages, reminders or updates you turn on, and requests you ask us to send to others
• To keep the service secure, prevent fraud and abuse, and fix problems
• To understand how the service is used and improve it
• To comply with the law and enforce our Terms

Some features use artificial intelligence to personalize results and generate suggestions, such as searching in your own words, ranking opportunities for your profile, suggesting profile details from a resume or transcript you upload, and giving feedback on or suggesting edits to your essays and application materials. To do this, the information that feature needs (for example your search, profile details, the document you upload, or the text you ask about) is sent to third-party AI service providers.

Some of these providers' terms allow them to keep content sent to them, use it to improve their own products and AI models, and have their staff review it. Because of this, please don't include sensitive information you wouldn't want processed this way — such as Social Security numbers, financial account numbers, or health information — in anything you upload or submit to an AI feature. You can remove that information from a document before uploading it.

Using AI features is optional; you can browse, save, and track opportunities without them. AI outputs are informational only and can be incomplete or inaccurate. We do not make decisions that have legal or similarly significant effects on you based solely on automated processing.

We don't sell your personal information. We share it only:

• With service providers that help us run Nichable, such as hosting and data storage, sign-in and account security, email delivery, and payment processing, which process it to provide those services to us
• With AI service providers, when you use an AI feature, as described in “AI features and your information” above, including that some may use it under their own terms
• When you choose to share, such as a list, progress page, portfolio, or essay you share by link, or a request you send to a recommender. Anyone with a link you share can see what it shows, and may pass it on; you can turn most sharing off at any time in the app
• For legal reasons, if required by law or to protect the safety, rights, or property of our users, the public, or Nichable
• In a business transfer, such as a merger or acquisition, subject to this policy

We don't sell or share personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising.

Nichable shows ads served by Google AdSense, which help keep the service free. We ask Google to show only non-personalized ads: ads chosen from the page you're on and your general location, not from your browsing on other sites or a profile of your interests. We don't give Google your account information, profile, saved opportunities, or anything else you tell Nichable.

To serve ads, Google and its partners receive information your browser sends, such as your IP address and the page you're viewing, and may use cookies or similar technologies to limit how often you see an ad, prevent fraud, and measure ads in aggregate. See how Google uses information from sites that use its services. You can block these cookies in your browser without affecting anything else on Nichable.

We keep your information for as long as your account is active and as needed to provide the service. When you delete your account or ask us to delete your data, we delete it, except where we need to keep certain records for legal, security, or fraud-prevention reasons. Residual copies in backups are removed on their normal schedule.

• You can view and update most profile information in Settings.
• You can remove uploaded documents and unsave opportunities or searches at any time.
• You can turn optional emails on or off in Settings.
• You can ask us for a copy of your data, to correct it, or to delete your account.

Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights. If you're a California resident, the California Consumer Privacy Act (as amended by the CPRA) gives you the right to know what personal information we collect and how we use and disclose it, and the rights to access, delete, and correct it, and to opt out of its sale or sharing (we don't sell or share it). Residents of other states with privacy laws may have similar rights. We won't discriminate against you for exercising any of them. To make a request, contact us; we may need to verify your identity first, and you may use an authorized agent.

Parents and guardians. A parent or guardian of a student under 18 can contact us to review the information we hold about their child, have it corrected or deleted, or close the account. We'll verify the request before acting on it.

California minors. If you're under 18 and live in California, you can ask us to remove content you posted that is visible to others on Nichable (for example a shared page); you can also remove most of it yourself. Removal may not ensure complete or comprehensive removal of the content, for instance if someone else has copied or reposted it.

Do Not Track. We don't track you across other websites or use analytics trackers, and we ask for non-personalized ads for every visitor, so we treat all visitors the same whether or not their browser sends a Do Not Track or Global Privacy Control signal. We don't sell or share personal information, so there is nothing to opt out of.

We use administrative, technical, and physical safeguards designed to protect your information. No online service can guarantee perfect security, but we work to protect your data and will notify you of a breach affecting your information as required by law.

Nichable is operated in the United States, and your information is stored and processed there.

We may update this policy as Nichable changes. If we make a material change, we'll update the effective date below and, where appropriate, let you know directly.
